The American Karate class is a curriculum which includes:

  • Free-sparring or practice fighting (done safely)
  • Self-defense against grabbing attacks
  • Self-defense against striking assaults
  • Kata (solo pre-arranged exercises)

This is an all inclusive curriculum which emphasizes equally all facets of karate training.  It is called American Karate because we do not teach Oriental culture or terminology.  It is a karate curriculum that is directed towards the American way of thinking and learning.

The Classical Karate class is a curriculum which has its roots in how karate was taught when it was a closely held secret.  The two main training points of Classical Karate are:

  • Kata – the solo pre-arranged techniques of offense and defense
  • “Bunkai” or how to interpret the movements of the Kata into simple, no-nonsense self-defense

The Classical Karate class also doubles as our Therapeutic Martial Arts class.  There are a number of benefits to our American Karate, Classical Karate & Therapeutic Martial Arts classes:

  • Improve Balance
As we age, our sense of balance diminishes. The carefully-designed movements in Karate will help improve balance and prevent injuries.

  • Prevent Injury
Improving balance isn't the only way Karate helps to prevent injury. Studies have shown that an exercise program like ours can actually help improve calcium deposits leading to stronger bones. Also, by maintaining and improving flexibility, you will improve your range of motion which can also help avoid falls and accidents.

  • Strengthen Your Immune System.
Regardless of age, we know that regular exercise keeps the immune system stronger. With Karate, your body will be primed to avoid infections and other illnesses such as the common cold, the flu, or other ailments that can wreak havoc on us as we age.

  • Recover Faster
Additional studies have shown that regular exercise can speed up wound healing by as much as 25 percent. If you do have a fall or get sick, you'll be back to full health much faster because of Karate.

  • Stay Healthy Longer
Increased flexibility, stronger muscles and bones are just the beginning of the benefits you can gain by joining us in Karate. Many studies have also shown that regular exercise may in fact help delay or prevent many diseases commonly associated with aging. Things like diabetes and cardiovascular disease do not have to be a part of growing older.

  • Increase Your Mental Capacity
Extensive research has shown that regularly exercising can keep your minds sharper longer. Add to this the fact that Martial Arts and Karate training involves learning new terminology, memorizing forms, and becoming more engaged, and it's easy to see how Karate can keep you sharper longer.
