American Freestyle Karate
Curriculum DVDs
I have put on DVD the entire curriculum up to Black Belt for American Freestyle Karate. This is the first time this information has been available to the public. All the materials in these DVDs are exactly what I teach in my school to each and every one of my students.
White/Yellow Belt - The product of this level is a student who has familiarity with the basics of karate, can do beginning combinations and basic sparring.
Orange Belt - The product of this level is a student who is comfortable with intermediate combinations, beggining block & counter moves, and is beginning to learn the first kata Naihanchi.
Blue Belt - The product of this level is a student who can apply combinations and block & counter moves in sparring, who has a familiarity with the stepping pattern of Naihanchi.
Senior Blue Belt - The product of this level is a student who has confidence in their ability to use all the combinations and block & counter moves in sparring; can execute Naihanchi kata.
Purple Belt - The product of this level is a student who has the conceptual understanding of faking; is familiar with defensive stepping combined with blocking in sparring; is familiar with self defense targeting.
Senior Purple Belt - The product of this level is a student who is familiar with defensive stepping defense; who is comfortable using faking as an offensive approach in sparring; beginning Seisan kata.
Green Belt - The product of this level is a student who is comfortable with using indirect approach (faking and angling) in sparring, familiar with Seisan kata, and has the baility to locate self defense targets at high speed.
Senior Green Belt - The product of this level is a student who can apply indirect style sparring with confidence, can execute all of Seisan kata.
Red Belt - The product of this level is a student who is familiar with the concepts of: sideways orientation for sparring, shielding as a defense and follow up combinations for self defense (breakdowns).
Senior Red Belt - The product of this level is a student who is familiar with deceptive kicking and is proficient with breaking down his opponent in a self defense situation.
Brown/Senior Brown Belt - The product of these levels are a student who can effectively spar from all positions; is skilled with motion application interpretations (bunkai) of the kata, who can execute with full speed and power application of self defense breakdowns.
Each belt level is section of a larger overall grouping.
* Grouping 1 consists of White through Senior Blue Belt.
* Grouping 2 consists of Purple through Senior Green Belt.
* Grouping 3 consists of Red through Senior Brown Belt.
