by Dan Anderson (June 2007)This is a summary DVD of the classes I am going to teach at the 10th Annual Modern Arnis Summer Camp put on by the German Arnis Association DAV this coming August in Germany. This camp celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of Modern Arnis by Grandmaster Remy Presas. Master instructors Rene Tongson, Bram Frank, Dieter Knutel and I all are teaching at the camp. This DVD is a must for anyone who attends the camp and is of special interest for those who can't make it.
This DVD highlights the main points of my classes and it covers:
1. The Art of Movement
The Art of Movement has a number of drills to increase ones ability to move and operate at a long range. This is a perfect complement to the middle and close range applications of Modern Arnis.
2. The Why (reason) for Anyos
The empty hand anyos (forms) have been discovered to be a North American phenomenon. I go over the use of structure and motion application of the moves of Anyo #1.
3. Power Development
In this segment I show how to utilize the entire body to develop finishing power - the ability to use one strike where one might have used 5.
4. Modern Arnis Signature Throws
There are three key points to making Modern Arnis throws (as well as any throw) effortless. I demonstrate each of the key points and how they each apply to the signature throws of Modern Arnis.This DVD has a number of the innovations I have made to become part of the MA 80 style of Modern Arnis.
These techniques should be practiced under the supervision of a trained instructor.
